Daily Life Calculators
Age, date, fuel cost, tip & everyday tools.
What Are Daily Life Calculators?
Daily life calculators handle the practical, often surprisingly tricky calculations that arise in everyday situations — from splitting a restaurant bill fairly, to working out your exact age in days, to estimating whether you have enough fuel to reach the next service station. These tools save time, prevent mental arithmetic errors, and take the friction out of everyday decisions.
Time and date calculators are among the most universally useful tools we offer. Age calculators tell you exactly how old someone is in years, months, and days from a date of birth. Date difference calculators find the number of days, weeks, or months between any two dates — useful for project deadlines, anniversaries, legal timeframes, and pregnancy tracking. Countdown calculators show how long until a future date.
Cost and budget calculators cover the financial arithmetic of everyday life. Fuel cost calculators estimate the cost of a road trip given the distance, fuel efficiency, and current pump price. Tip calculators divide a restaurant bill including service by any number of diners. Currency converters apply real-time or manually entered exchange rates to convert between any two currencies instantly.
Food, nutrition, and lifestyle calculators help with recipe scaling, food serving estimates, sleep cycle optimisation, typing speed measurement, and reading time estimates. These tools are built for the questions that people type into a search engine and expect a fast, accurate, jargon-free answer.
All daily life calculators are designed to be as simple to use as possible — minimal inputs, instant results, and clear explanations of what the result means in practical terms. No account needed, no ads cluttering the result, and the calculation runs entirely in your browser for immediate, offline-capable use.

Daily Life Calculator Guides
Time & Date Tools
Age calculation seems simple but requires careful handling of calendar rules — months have different lengths, leap years add an extra day in February, and whether the birthday has passed in the current year determines whether you add or subtract a year. Our age calculator handles all these edge cases and gives your exact age in years, months, and days simultaneously.
Date difference calculation is equally nuanced. Simply subtracting calendar dates ignores the varying number of days per month; computing the number of working days additionally requires knowing which days are weekends and which are public holidays in your jurisdiction. Our date difference calculator handles all these scenarios.
Cost & Budget
Fuel cost for a road trip: Cost = (Distance ÷ Fuel Economy) × Price per Litre/Gallon. If your car returns 40 mpg and petrol costs 150p per litre, a 200-mile trip costs roughly £17.05 in fuel. Our fuel cost calculator handles both metric (L/100km) and imperial (mpg) fuel economy figures and compares the cost across different vehicles.
Tip calculation: Tip = Bill × Tip% ÷ 100; Per Person = (Bill + Tip) ÷ Number of Diners. The most common sources of confusion are whether the tip should be calculated on the pre-tax or post-tax bill, and how to split unequal shares fairly. Our tip calculator handles custom splits and lets each person pay a different amount.
Everyday Utilities
Reading time estimate: Time (minutes) = Word Count ÷ Average Reading Speed (WPM). Average adult reading speed is approximately 200–250 words per minute for non-fiction. Our reading time calculator adjusts for different content types and comprehension levels. The words-per-minute calculator works in the opposite direction: it measures how fast you type by timing a standardised passage.
Sleep cycle calculators use the 90-minute sleep cycle model to suggest optimal bedtimes or wake times that avoid waking mid-cycle — the point at which people feel most groggy. Enter when you need to wake up and the calculator gives recommended bedtimes; enter when you are going to sleep and it gives optimal alarm times.

Frequently Asked Questions About Daily Life Calculators
Exact age is calculated from the date of birth to the current date. If today's month and day are after the birth month and day, you have had your birthday this year (full years count). If not, you subtract one year. The remaining months and days are calculated similarly. Leap year birthdays (29 February) are handled by treating 28 February or 1 March as the birthday in non-leap years.
The simplest method converts both dates to a Julian Day Number (or day-count from a fixed epoch) and subtracts. Our calculator additionally breaks down the result into years, months, and days, and optionally excludes weekends or specified public holidays to give a working-days count.
Fuel Cost = (Trip Distance ÷ Vehicle Fuel Economy) × Fuel Price per Unit. Use consistent units: if fuel economy is in litres per 100 km, fuel cost = (Distance km ÷ 100) × (L/100km) × Price per litre. If fuel economy is in miles per gallon, fuel cost = (Distance miles ÷ MPG) × Price per gallon.
Tipping conventions vary by country and establishment type. In the UK, 10–15% is standard in restaurants; in the US, 18–20% is typical; in many European countries, rounding up or 5–10% is customary. Our tip calculator lets you set any percentage and split the total (including tip) equally or unevenly among diners.
Our currency converter uses a manually entered exchange rate or supports you entering the current mid-market rate from a trusted source. For accurate conversion, use the mid-market rate as a reference and be aware that banks and exchange services charge a spread (typically 1–4%) above this rate for actual transactions.
Reading time = Word Count ÷ Reading Speed (WPM). Average adult reading speed is 200–250 WPM for standard prose. Technical or academic content is slower (150–180 WPM); skimming can reach 400–600 WPM but with lower comprehension. Our calculator lets you set a custom WPM if you know your personal reading speed.
